POSITION TITLE: Assistant Carpenter
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Carpenter is responsible for assisting Carpenters in their day-to-day activities under direction of the Superintendent.
Knowledge of the basic aspects of construction.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Jobsite Responsibilities
General cleaning and housekeeping duties
Daily set-up and break-down of work area, including selecting, handling and staging of materials and tools
Assist with site and building layout to establish and maintain reference points and lines
Erect and dismantle scaffolding, shoring, braces, barricades and other temporary structures or safety measures
Assist in assembling and fastening materials to provide a structure or framework for its intentioned use, including shaping or cutting materials to specified measurements
Assist installation of thermal and moisture building components, as necessary or required
Assist installation of door frames, doors, windows and builder’s hardware
Assist installation of finishes, specialties, equipment, furnishings and fixtures
Operate and maintain hand and power tools
May operate and maintain heavy equipment
Follow Superintendent’s directions and expectations for each specific task assigned
Perform all work in compliance with company policies and OSHA regulations
Perform other miscellaneous duties as required and assigned
REQUIRED CAPABILITIES
Assistant Carpenter Specific
General knowledge of materials, methods, tools and equipment used in commercial carpentry
Physical strength and endurance to lift, carry, pull, push and place items and materials weighing up to 70 pounds repetitively throughout the working day
Must possess good balance and hand-eye coordination
Must be able to bend, stoop, stand, turn, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach and grasp, often for extended periods of time
Ability to work at elevated heights.
Willing to travel and work away from home when required
Willing to work overtime, including nights and weekends, when necessary
Must be able to understand and adhere to company safety protocols
Must be punctual and have reliable transportation to and from work
Must pass pre-employment drug testing and background check
Must maintain ability to work in a drug-free environment
WORKING CONDITIONS
Most of the work required of this position will be performed on remote construction job sites, both inside buildings and out, in all types of physical and atmospheric conditions.
Work at elevated heights or in confined spaces should be expected.
Employee must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by company policy and OSHA regulations while at work.
The project team and/or team member may need to move to other geographic locations for projected work, if necessary.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Possession of a high school diploma, general education degree (GED) or equivalent education is preferred
At least one (1) year of commercial carpentry experience and two (2) overall years in commercial construction
