The Thermal Ceramics division designs, manufactures and installs a broad range of thermal insulation products that significantly reduce energy consumption and emissions in a variety of high temperature processing applications.

Responsibilities: POSITION SUMMARY The Research and Development Co-Op will provide engineering support to deliver projects within the established budget and timeline.
They will be responsible for identifying product improvement and provide recommended solutions, including business justification of recommended changes.
Projects for each period are determined by the department manager or engineer to whom they are assigned.
The student shall be briefed on each assignment prior to execution of the assignment.
The projects are varied and may require assistance from other engineers or support staff.
Co-op students will not work alone or be unsupervised.
The projects will be product oriented in a lab environment focused on development of new products and processes, which meets the company’s strategic market and manufacturing objectives.
It will draw on all your faculties as an engineer.

JOB FUNCTIONS Apply educational background and engineering experience to the formulation, design and development of new products and processes.
Review the historical information and data and outline the technical details of a project.
Understand and implement Stage Gate process.
Organize laboratory to evaluate new ideas, and evaluate the results based on scientific, engineering, and statistical principles.
Evaluate competitive products and use the information to improve our existing products and processes.
Participate with personnel from R&D and other departments to carryout projects, which require cross-functional coordination.
Successfully complete major projects in a timely manner, within budget.

Qualifications: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Enrolled in a college or university offering a co-op program Attained minimum of Sophomore status.
Pursuing a degree in Engineering Good Academic standing Previous experience in a professional environment desired.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point).
Strong problem-solving capabilities.
Outstanding cross-functional communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks.
Ability to work cohesively within a team and independently with minimal supervision.
SCHEDULE DESCRIPTION The typical schedule for this position is Monday through Friday 8 hours per day.
This is not a remote position.

This position will work partially on the production floor, with periods of time in a controlled office environment.
The noise level is consistently above 85 decibels when on the production floor.
During summer months, employee may have to work in temperatures as high as 110 degrees for prolonged periods of time.

The employee constantly works near mechanical parts and lift trucks.
The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or vapors or hazardous products such as degreasers and silicone spray.
Required to wear steel toed shoes, safety glasses and ear plugs in the manufacturing area.
Respirators may be required in specific areas of the plant.
