*CERTIFIED ATHLETIC TRAINER JOB DESCRIPTION* *Job Summary * Athletic Trainers (ATs) are highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals who render service or treatment, under the direction of or in collaboration with a physician, in accordance with their education, training, and the state's statutes, rules, and regulations.
*Schedule * This position is a 12-month contract/agreement starting as soon as possible.
*Requirements * ● BOC Certified Athletic Trainer - maintained and current certification and continuing education requirements as set forth by the Board of Certification (BOC) ● State licensed or certified Athletic Trainer (or Eligible) maintained in accordance with state laws and practice act/regulations ● Personal Vehicle for travel to school and events ● Maintain current certification in CPR, AED, and Emergency Cardiac Care.
● NPI Number ● Excellent Communication and organization skills ● Candidates must clear a satisfactory background check.
*Supervisory Relationship * This position is supervised by the Director of Athletic Training and Regional Supervisors for PlaySafe.
Work and schedule are coordinated with the Athletic Director at the high school.
*Primary Functions/Responsibilities * The athletic trainer will practice said profession within the parameters of State Athletic Trainers Licensing/Certification Laws as laid out by the states governing body and will follow both the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics as set forth by the National Athletic Trainers Association and the Board of Certification.
Job duties are based on the needs of the school and its athletic programs.
The Athletic Trainer’s duties, enumerated in this document, should not be considered all inclusive.
The Athletic Director shall coordinate with the AT supervisor and AT to modify duties when deemed necessary.
The Athletic Trainer will be present and travel for varsity football games.
The AT will provide coverage for home athletic contests and practices with highest incidence of injury is considered priority when multiple events coincide.
The AT shall attend other post-season and home-hosted contests as available and as directed by PlaySafe supervisors and the Athletic Director.
● Provide athletic training coverage for high school athletic programs.
● Establish an effective athletic training program for high school athletics.
● Provide 1st aid and injury assessment/treatment/rehabilitation/reconditioning for high school student- athletes.
The athletic trainer will also be responsible for making appropriate physician referral.
● Provide coverage at home events and practices from the beginning of the fall sport season to the conclusion of the spring season (according to highest incidence of injury when multiple events coincide) ● Assist in the coordination of annual athletic/sports physicals and supervise the clearance of injured athletes prior to and during the sport seasons.
Review student physicals and releases to ensure authenticity and ensure safety of any athletes with underlying medical conditions.
● Maintain a line of communication with the team physician(s) regarding athletic health care and recommended treatment/rehabilitation for all athletic injuries.
● Assist coaching staff in evaluating and implementing sport specific conditioning programs and methods.
● Maintain an effective, efficient, and clean athletic training room.
● Maintain communication with parents on the care and treatment of their student-athlete.
● File all necessary reports and insurance (if responsible for handling) associated with athletic injuries and/or incidents.
● Maintain a daily AT room visits/treatment log.
● Oversee the ordering of supplies and equipment pertaining to the athletic training room and maintain an up-to-date inventory.
● Provide the Athletic Director with an annual budget for supplies and equipment when and if applicable.
● Equip each team with appropriate medical equipment and supplies needed for practices and travel.
● Assist in the selection and fitting of protective equipment, including special taping, pads, or braces.
● Create a safe playing environment by monitoring and controlling environmental risks.
● Share professional information relative to athletic training with the school’s coaching staff.
● Review Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) annually and any changes associated with the EAPs with the coaching staff when necessary.
● Coordinate and organize the daily Athletic Trainer functions with the Athletic Director and coaches at the high school.
● Is expected to meet PlaySafes’ and the school’s professional, clinical, technical, communication and documentation requirements and standards ● Make decisions based on established National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) guidelines and best practice methods.
