DESCRIPTION This position will be responsible for interacting with co-workers and participants of community centers as well as other departmental activities.
At any given time, working hours of a part-time Recreation Associate may be divided between the duties of a receptionist, recreation specialist or groundskeeper based on the needs of the community center.
May interact with instructors, program participants, young children, community leaders, co-workers, civic organizations, and the public.
Enforces the rules and regulations of the center for the safety and welfare of the staff and participants.
This position will report to all levels of the Recreation Specialist series or other designated person.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Based on the needs of the community center, may be assigned to work as a recreation specialist in order to monitor people participating in activities at various community centers.
Accurately maintains participation/attendance numbers, and other records as requested.
Keeps the supervisor informed of any problems arising with participants, activities, and the assigned facility.
Based on the needs of the community center, may be assigned to work as receptionist to answer incoming calls and assist participants utilizing the various community centers based on the needs of the location.
Assist with rentals and Program information.
Assist with fax transaction and mailings.
Based on the needs of the community center, may be assigned to work as a groundskeeper to assist with beautifying the grounds by Mows lawns, rakes leaves and brush, weeds flower beds, and trims and edges turf areas.
Uses hand tools, mowers, blowers, line trimmers, hedge clippers.
Plants flowers, shrubs, grass and trees.
Applies fertilizers, pesticides and soil amendments.
Assists in keeping the facility, equipment, and supplies neat, orderly and clean.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Required minimum qualifications: Minimum Education: No minimum education required.
Experience: No minimum experience required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of programs for adults and small children.
Familiarity with departmental and county policies and procedures.
Proficiency in first aid and CPR, building maintenance, coordinating events and activities, and supervising community service workers.
Mastery of record keeping and filing.
Good communication skills, both oral and written.
Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Certification: Possess or have ability to obtain a valid state operator/driver’s license for the type vehicle or equipment operated.

Math: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs.

Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.
Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties which are often characterized by frequent change.
Physical Abilities: Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, taste, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals.
Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, smoke, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, pathogenic substances, animal/human bites, water hazards or rude/irate customers.
