2000 Buick Century Custom.

Only 116k miles.
An opportunity for someone who wants a good car on the cheap using sweat equity.
Car drove and shifted perfectly fine.
When idling in the driveway, the 3.
1L engine developed a noticeable misfire in one cylinder.
Before I could open the hood, it started a loud clicking noise while running.
- Isolated it to Cylinder #6 (front bank, drivers side).
- Pulled the valve cover to find a broken valve spring.
YaaY! Replaced the valve spring - Noise was less but still there and so was the misfire.
- Pulled compression test on #6.
Final compression: 180psi.
Repeated it three times.
No leaking/bad valves.
My assumption is that when the valve spring broke, the lifter was able to move the pushrod farther and it literally came apart.
Internet search shows the lifters are prone to failure in the 3.
1L (thanks General Motors!) - The lifters are accessed by pulling the upper and lower intake manifold.
Same procedure to replace the troublesome lower intake gaskets (another Hat Tip to General Motors!) Parts from RockAuto cost approx $125 (set of 12 Lifters, Fel-Pro intake gasket set) Car can be started and idled.
Can be drive short distances but it should NOT be driven any long distances.
Any misfire is hard on catalytic converters and causes oil dilution/cylinder washing/piston ring wear.
Add your labor and its a solid 116k mile used car for less than $700.
Clean title in hand.
